1944-09-16: The Lowndes becomes a ship of SOPA. 43 member Beach Party (Platoon #15) arrives:

1944-10-01: Enroute from Seattle to San Francisco.
1944-10-02: Arrived in Frisco.
1944-10-03: Left San Francisco for San Pedro, CA. Passed through anti-submarine nets.
1944-10-04: Arrived at San Pedro in Berth C-7.
1944-10-05: Shakedown group boards ship and observes the many ship drills.
1944-10-06: More Shakedown drills. Boat #6 lowered.
1944-10-07: Completed more shakedown drills in San Pedro Channel.
1944-10-08: Anchored at San Pedro with Long Beach Pier light given as a bearing.
1944-10-09: To sea, Completed shakedown antiaircraft gun practice. Made run on tug and target sled.
1944-10-10: More gunnery exercises. Simulated casualties on #1, 20mm gun moved to sick bay.
1944-10-11: Returned to San Pedro Harbor, Bert C-7.
1944-10-12: To sea for fueling and paravane exercises.
1944-10-13: Made steady run at 70 RPM for Engr. data.
1944-10-14: Completed full power run at 18.75 knots.
1944-10-15: LCVP #19 is dropped on deck. Damage to boat and Boom #7.
1944-10-16: G. Dahms, S. Hyde, L. Johnson, C. Munson, and A. Resetar join the Lowndes.
1944-10-17: Moored to Pier 4, Berth 42, Terminal Island
1944-10-18: 130 gallons of fresh milk loaded on ship.
1944-10-19: Moved to dry dock at Terminal Is. San Pedro.
1944-10-20: Moved to Pier #3, berth #32, San Pedro.
1944-10-21: Loaded fresh and dry provisions.
1944-10-22: V. Bardenhagen and J. Chilicote join the Lowndes. Numerous yard workers on ship.
1944-10-23: Left San Pedro for Pearl Harbor. Loaded 2 LCVP's. Completed Gun practice.
1944-10-24: Avoided collision with USS Hendry.
1944-10-25: Emergency turn to avoid a merchant ship.
1944-10-26: Traveling with USS Hendry, Barrow, and Pickens. Completed zig zagging and Gun practice.
1944-10-27: Exercised General Drills & steering casualty.
1944-10-28: Ships in columns 1000 yards apart.
1944-10-29: Avoided collision with USS Pickens.
1944-10-31: All boats away.
1944-11-02: Troops loaded.
1944-11-03: Debark/Embark off Port Allen Kauai.
1944-11-04: Enroute to Makua, Oahu. More boat practice - embarking/debarking.
1944-11-05: Anchored in Waianea, Oahu. Left and arrived at Pearl Harbor.
1944-11-06: D. Stratton and S. Johnson join Lowndes. In Berth X-7, Pearl Harbor. Left for Kahului Harbor.
1944-11-07: Lowndes is fleet guide and OTC. Arrived at Kahului Harbor and loaded Army combat equipment.
1944-11-08: Left Kahului Harbor in formation with USS Pickens. Completed landing exercises at Maui.
1944-11-09: Night Retirement off Maui. More Landing exercises in morning.
1944-11-10: More landings on Maalaea Bay. Left Maui.
1944-11-11: More Debarking & Embarking Troops and landings at Maui with USS Pickins, Hendry & Barrow
1944-11-12: Unloaded cargo & troops at Kepuhi Beach.
1944-11-13: Returned to Pearl Harbor and loaded food, supplies, and fuel.
1944-11-14: Left Pearl Harbor. Completed gun exercises.
1944-11-15: Returned to Maui and loaded supplies + fuel.
1944-11-16: Out to sea with 3 APA's & screening ships.
1944-11-17: Marine Injured. Ship SC-1370 delivers injured for treatment. Catholic Mass at Hatch 2.
1944-11-18: Away Troops in Practice Landings at Maui
1944-11-19: Debarked the Construction Battalion and TransDiv 45 Beach Party.
1944-11-20: Completed drills: Steering casualty, fire, collision, abandon ship, fire rescue and salvage.

1944-12-07: Honolulu USO Troupe comes aboard.

1944-12-14: Gun practice and LST/LSM Towing and Lowering/Raising Boats exercises. Antisub screen.
1944-12-15: Paravane Exercises.
1944-12-16: Completed Boat Lowering/Raising exercises in Cruising disposition CHARLIE Form One.
1944-12-17: Lowering/Raising Boats exercises.
1944-12-18: Lowering/Raising Boats exercises
1944-12-19: Fueled Destroyer 656. Captain takes Gig.
1944-12-20: Fueled Destoryer 656. Paravane Accident.
1944-12-21: Exercised at GQ. Completed gun practice.

1944-12-24: Secured all power for overhaul.

1944-12-27: Herman Leick joins the Lowndes today.
1944-12-28: Hoyt Moore joins the Lowndes today.
1944-12-29: Loaded ammo, fuel, money, and Combat Team 23rd 4th Marine Division.
1944-12-30: Moored to pier #2, Kahului Harbor, Maui. Loaded cargo including 1800 lbs of Lettuce.
1944-12-31: Received 23,890 gallons of fresh water.
